Thrax the Gargoyleby ~Scyndariel

Traditional Art / Drawings / Fantasy

A headshot of a gargoyle character I created for an Underdark D&D campaign. I'm fascinated by saber-toothed creatures, and I had yet to draw such a feature on any gargoyle. I think the lines of Thrax's jaw are damn sexy, as are all the spines and stoney ridges. Again, mechanical pencil is the weapon of choice. A quick gestural sketch given some depth and obsessive contour lining, and over all came out well.

Amazing creature concept! I love the lines of his jaws and teeth, and the amount of character you've captured with his rather minimal expression is impressive. He would make a really interesting sculpting challenge.

Indeed, dear Thrax is not the most jovial of stone creatures, and I'm glad that comes across in the illustration. I have other sketches of him in various forms, which I may scan in and add sometime soon.
